Boondocking Perry Rest Stop
Not liking the big cities, we bypass Salt Lake City heading towards Idaho in particularly Twin Falls. However, we have to get our water heater fixed so a stop at Ogden, Utah is required. Getting the water heater fixed takes some time, followed by a stop at the laundromat to clean our clothes rounds out the day. Thus, the need to find a place to stop overnight before the sun sets is our main focus. Thankfully, the US has a wonderful highway network that caters for truckies and travelers. Rest stops are frequent and excellent for a free overnight stay. Using Apps like Campendium and ioverlander we locate a rest stop just north of the laundromat. Boondocking Perry rest stop is where we will spend the night.
Now we can now relax in the knowledge we have a safe spot to spend the night. Ogden and Perry are located just north of Salt Lake City in Utah. Salt Lake City was founded in 1847 by followers of the Mormon Church. The city gets its name from the Great Salt Lake that is located to the north west, about 30 kilometres. It is headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Places worth visiting are the State Capitol Building and Temple Square. Salt Lake City sits at the foot of Twin peaks and is approximately 200 kilometres from Bonneville speedway located on the salt flats.
Boondocking Perry Rest Stop Review
Boondocking Perry rest stop which is located approximately 88 kilometres north from the centre of Salt Lake City.
Sits on I-84 northbound and allows overnight parking for up to 8 hours. However, we did stay longer with no issues at all. The rest stop has bathroom facilities, vending machines, covered tables and chairs, plenty of parking for cars, RV’s and trucks. Also, has a lovely grassy area for families and a section for dogs.
Signal for AT&T is excellent with 3-4 bars of 4g. The rest stop is well maintained, very clean and felt very safe. It is also fairly level with only minor levelling required for Cup Cake. Views of the sun setting were beautiful with the mountains as a backdrop for the rest area.
However, boondocking Perry rest area did have a downside. Due to its location it was fairly noisy with the traffic from the I-84 and from the trucks entering and leaving the rest area.
Although, this did not affect our sleep for the night as we were pretty tired. It may cause problems for others that are light sleepers.
There is no dump station or potable water here. However, Mavericks gas station just north of the rest area has a dump station. Overall, we would have no hesitation recommending this rest area for a free place to park for the night.
