House Sitting Louie

House Sitting Louie

House Sitting Louie

Ten months have past since we started out on our new house sitting lifestyle. It’s hard to believe that we have travelled and house sat around the world in that time. As the plane descends into Brisbane, we turn our thoughts to house sitting Louie in our hometown of the Gold Coast. Louie is a one year old Cavoodle with lots of energy who will keep us busy.

Waiting for treat

Beth our homeowner is a good friend that booked us in before we left our home shores nine months earlier. This sit will also be our longest sit to date, just over 6 weeks. Now house sitting in our hometown doesn’t bring with it the excitement that comes from an overseas sit. However, it does allow us to save some money and catch up with family and friends. Also, it gives us time to plan our next house sitting adventure.

The Paw

But first for our international readers lets give you some information about our hometown. The Gold Coast is situated at the south east tip of Queensland near the border of New South Wales. Lying approximately 100 kilometres south of Brisbane.

Its shores are lined with spectacular white sandy beaches filled with sun seeking people. Where the sun glistens off the brilliant blue water and the waves fill surfers with joy. Surfers Paradise brings tourist from far and wide to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the stunning climate that is the Gold Coast. Home to many attractions that include Sea World, Movie World, Dreamworld and Wet n Wild to name just a few and a great reason to visit. It is also an easy drive to the pristine Hinterland and the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. Definitely worth a trip to escape the cold of the northern hemisphere winter.

House Sitting Louie Begins

House sitting Louie begins with meeting this cute little cavoodle. He is a golden brown bundle of energy and just loves people. The welcome was full of lots of barking, jumping and wagging of his tail. We felt very loved and he bonded very quickly with us. As he is still a puppy there are traits, he has that most puppies have.

house sitting louie standing travel is sweet

The Stand

One he loves to chew on things, especially the table leg, tissues and twigs from the garden. With the latter two he spreads them all over the house 😊. He has some OCD’s that are quite funny. He will find socks if they are left on the floor even under other clothes, its like a 6th sense lol. Secondly, when hanging clothes on the line if you drop a peg, he is like a ballistic missile homed in on it and takes off with it.

House sitting Louie has been a wonderful experience and we have fallen in love with this little munchkin. He is a such cute little character. He sleeps with us at night, sometimes migrating under the sheets for a while before getting too hot and exiting again. Louie just loves to play fetch with his toys and has this little way of letting you know he wants you to throw it (see video below).

house sitting louie playing travel is sweet

Louie playing with his ball

After he has played fetch and a bit of tug-o-war he then takes his position beside one of us on the couch for a nap. There is no way anyone could sneak into this house as Louie barks at every little noise that is not to his liking. Though he would lick them to death if they came in 😊. His has bonded with us very well and it will be a struggle to leave him.

House Sitting Louie Conclusion

While sitting in our hometown hasn’t had the attraction of being overseas it has still been a wonderful experience house sitting Louie. One we wouldn’t change for a minute and hope to do again. Beth has been an amazing host and has treated us as one of the family. For those from the northern hemisphere Australia is a perfect place to house sit and we would recommend you organise a house sit down under.

House Sitting Witley

House Sitting Witley

House Sitting Witley

Hedges stand high over the well-worn lane. Sunlight pushing through the tightly knit leaves. Behind, lays acres of rolling farmland covered by green fields tended by grazing animals. A far cry from the dusty parched sun burnt outback of our homeland Australia. Manoeuvring through the tight laneways and blind curves we head towards our next adventure, house sitting Witley.

house sitting witley the tree travel is sweet

What will this new phase bring? Our house sit is positioned in the farmlands of Worcestershire near the hamlet of Little Witley. Approximately 15 kilometres north-west from Worcester. Our abode for the next three weeks is a converted barn, with modern amenities, an abundance of rural views and two lovely dogs. Graciously our homeowner Denise has invited us two days early so she can show us the routines of Ruby and Willow. Denise also to give us a tour of the local area and attractions.

House Sitting Witley Ruby and Willow

Ruby is a Bedlington Terrier with a loving nature, she adores people. Bonding with us straight away, which was really nice. She loves having her belly scratched and would give us a big hug every morning when we came down stairs.

house sitting witley ruby travel is sweet

Ruby has a funny little ritual when it comes to eating her food. Taking her first three bites away from her plate to chew and then after the her third trip she would then eat the rest from her bowl. Living in a rural setting Ruby has plenty of space to explore, play and try catching the rats living under the trees. House sitting Witley also afforded us some wonderful walking locations. Shrawley Woods was a favourite for Ruby and Willow, allowing them to chase each other and have fun exploring the woods.

house sitting witley shrawley wood travel is sweet

Sometimes, Ruby would disappear for a while and we knew we could find her in our room at the window bathing in the warm sunlight. Likewise, Willow would more than likely be laying at the same window soaking up the warmth. Willow is a Whippet that is quite timid having been adopted by Denise. Like a lot of rescue dogs she was friendly, but still a little timid.

house sitting witley willow travel is sweet

However, after a few days she became a completely different dog. Willow loved being petted and was like a lap dog getting up on our laps as much as she could. When we would go on our walks, once she was off her lead she would run like the wind. Boy could she run, exploring the local fields and chasing the ball was her favourite past time. However both Ruby and Willow loved to sleep.

House Sitting Witley Sightseeing

House sitting Witley, gave us the opportunity to do some sightseeing. Denise graciously loaned us her car. Thus, we were able to take the dogs on some wonderful days out to explore the country side. One such trip was to Wales to see the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in the town of Llangollen.

house sitting witley canal boat travel is sweet

Canal boats use the aqueduct to navigate across a wide valley. Both Ruby and Willow had a great time walking along the canal.

We also visited Malvern twice, once we walked up Malvern Hill with lovely views of the surrounding country side. Albeit, the haze limited how far we could see. The second was for lunch at The Nag’s Head Pub with some friends. House sitting Witley was a wonderful time , spent with to wonderful dogs Ruby and Willow. Still miss my morning hugs with them.

House Sitting Easingwold

House Sitting Easingwold

House Sitting Easingwold

As we navigate our way through the outskirts of York, the scenery morphs from suburbia to Yorkshire countryside. The houses replaced by rolling countryside dotted with grazing animals. The wind howls cutting through with icy abandonment. The likelihood of rain hovers as we arrive to begin house sitting Easingwold. Ahead lies a relatively short stay with a lovely old English chap named Eric. Whom will provide us company while Helen his owner relaxes in the Italian Alps. Easingwold is a quaint English village located 21 kilometres north of the city of York.

Our Abode

While Easingwold is surrounded by modern homes the village centre is steeped in English history. The New Inn is not as the name would apply having been a coach stop in the 19th century. Filled with character and charm from times past.

The New Inn

The Georgian town square is surrounded by cosy cafes, tasty eating venues and a sweet ice cream shop. But our favourite place was on the main street called Morning Coffee Afternoon Tea. But house sitting Easingwold was all about Eric, a Border Terrier. Eric was such a beautiful soul, his age was defined by his zest for life. While, he loved to stay snuggled up in the chair or on the floor near the gas fired heater, he found youthful energy when it came time for his walks.

Eric Relaxing

Though the years had curbed the amount he was able to do. What he did, he did it with vigour. When it came time to relax, he loved his belly being scratched. Another fun little quirk was the stares he would give us, if only animals could talk and give us an insight to what they were thinking.

Overall, our time house sitting Easingwold was very chilled, we had time just to spend soaking up the atmosphere that is Easingwold. Coffees in our favourite Café, which Eric would head towards anytime we walk past the entrance.

Mentorship Academy

Mentorship Academy

Mentorship Academy

Twelve months ago, I resigned from my job of nearly seven years. Several emotions welled within my being. Joy, as I had become disillusioned with my career, and travel was at the forefront of my thoughts. However, mingled in was a sense of sorrow as I was leaving a great boss who had become a good friend. House sitting had now become my main focus and how we could achieve this without my income and only Carolyn’s reduced income to rely on. How could I bring in money? Our website was to be my option of choice. Creating income was going to be a challenge, but one I believed I could do. Several ideas have come and gone, but one has always hovered in the background. The “Mentorship Academy” a program that we could pass on our knowledge we have acquired over our year of house and pet sitting.

mentorship academy travel is sweet

The “Mentorship Academy” has morphed from several different concepts to what is now my first completed project ready to roll out. Will it be successful, able to deliver results, capture a market that will provide strong growth. Only time will tell. Having spent countless hours on its structure and how it will be delivered the time is near when I will roll it out into the marketplace. Fearful? HELL YES!! Excited? Definitely!! When you create something new like the Mentorship Academy you believe it will succeed. The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today” Franklin D. Roosevelt. Doubts for sure. However, these will not limit what I can achieve. Albert Schweitzer said “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”

Mentorship Academy is Ready for Launch

Walt Disney said, “If you can dream it, you can do it.” So, I have been dreaming about this and working towards it for a year now. Hence, the time has come to realise a dream and launch it. Thus, if you are looking to venture into the world of House and Pet Sitting or know someone that is considering it. Then the Mentorship Academy is for you. Everything you need to know can be found by clicking on this link Learn More About the Mentorship Academy.

As I close this post, I’ll leave you with one more quote from Chris Grosser “Opportunities don’t happen. You create them.”

House Sitting Oxford

House Sitting Oxford

House Sitting Oxford

Rugged up try and keep the cold from permeating the layers of our clothing. We sit, coffee in hand waiting for the next chapter to unfold. Wind blowing, we cast our eyes towards the tracks hoping our train will arrive soon so as to escape the chill on Worcester station. With Ruby and Willow still at the forefront of our thoughts we step onto the train as the warmth encompasses our bodies. Now the clickity-clack of the wheels reverberating through the train we turn our attention to house sitting Oxford. Ahead lies a short stay with Tara, Phoebe, some ducks and chooks. Located at the end of a gorgeous lane way sits a country cottage oozing with character. Behind the gates hides a lovely English garden albeit still in its winter coat. House sitting Oxford should be a cosy relaxing time spent with some lovely animals.

House Sitting Oxford – Tara, Phoebe and the Domesticated Fowl

Tara is an older, deaf Lab but with an amazingly sweet nature. She loves to be hugged and reciprocates in kind. Though not as agile as she once was, she still has the gumption to run as though a puppy. The large rural backyard is her playground, which she explores with vigour. Come walk time you would think she was a puppy again, she just loves to get out into nature. However, when she is within the confines of the cottage she loves to curl up on her rug and sleep. Phoebe a black and white cat while not as visible as Tara, could be found curled up in her favourite spot above the stairs. Although, less social than Tara she did visit Carolyn’s lap for the occasional smooch and scratch. Come feeding time they both would make their presence known.

house sitting oxford tara travel is sweet  house sitting oxford phoebe travel is sweet

House sitting Oxford also came with a new animal to care for ones we hadn’t sat with before. Ducks!!! As we would find out there was little difference between caring for ducks and chickens. Though not personal like Tara and Phoebe, they did have their own quirky nature. At times they would be curious of what I was up to on the outside of their pen. However, once I was inside the pen it was “run for the hills” 😊, as too the chooks. Having never grown up with chocks or ducks (although Carolyn did) a great perk was fresh eggs. What a difference in taste, fresh eggs have over store-bought eggs. Overall our first adventure with ducks was a positive experience.

House Sitting Oxford Homeowners

Besides the array of animals that were in attendance, there were the lovely homeowners Jennie and Chris. They graciously picked us up from the hotel we were staying at. Welcomed us into their home with open arms and made us a very tasty cake 😊. Also, they gave us the grand tour and explained everything we needed to know for our stay. We had a lovely chat getting to know them before they had to leave on their well-earned break.

Overall, we had a wonderful time house sitting Oxford. While making new friends in Jennie and Chris but also spending amazing time with Tara, Phoebe, ducks and chickens.

House Sitting Chiang Mai

House Sitting Chiang Mai

House Sitting Chiang Mai

Twelve months ago, I wouldn’t have believed we would be house sitting in Chiang Mai. Thailand was to be a stopover, catch up with a friend followed by some relaxation time at a resort. However, the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry. No matter how carefully a project is planned, something may still go wrong with it”. Gone was the resort replaced by a ten-day house sit in the suburbs of Chiang Mai. Albeit, house sitting Chiang Mai would be a far cry from a hotel resort on the beach it would allow us to experience the Thai culture as a local. This was a major lure of house and pet sitting to be able to soak up the local culture. Throw in a kitten and a dog for good measure we headed to Chiang Mai in 40°C+ temperatures.

house sitting chiang mai tuktuk travel is sweet

Although, we knew very little of Chiang Mai sometimes experiencing firsthand the eccentricities of a place is a great way to learn. Facts we learnt from house sitting Chiang Mai, some of which did surprise us. Chiang Mai sits approximately 700km north of Bangkok. Has an estimated population of 131,091 (2017). It is 310 metres above sea level and has been extremely hot (36°C – 40°C +) during our stay April-May 2019. There are lots of markets, tourists and traffic which is consistent with the rest of Thailand from what we have seen. There are plenty of sightseeing spots to visit within close proximity of Chiang Mai, Mae Sa Waterfall (see blog) for one. Furthermore, if you love to shop for bargains the array of markets will suit you down to the ground. Just remember to haggle with them for the best price.

House Sitting Chiang Mai Nubbins

To begin with we knew that house sitting Chiang Mai was going to have its challenges. Namely Nubbins(Nubs) the Thai dog. We had been informed that he was very timid around new people especially men. This we found was to be an understatement, to say the least. While Nubs warmed to Carolyn in a short period of time, it was not the case for me ☹. I love dogs and usually bond very quickly to them, but Nubs was going to take some time and patience. Resorting to all the tricks I know from getting down on the ground to his level, not looking directly at him. Offering him treats, doing the morning feeds still nothing would work. He would run away as soon as he saw me. After day five I was able to pat him for a short period of time. Halleluiah a breakthrough.

house sitting chiang mai nubbins travel is sweet

Day six brought a remarkable change in Nubs. Having run away as soon as he saw me too coming over for a pat and by the end of the day lying beside me on the lounge. To say I was chuffed would be an understatement. I had finally gained his trust and from that moment on he was like my shadow. He would jump up into bed next to me, sit by my side and the most amazing of all allow me to take him for a walk. We knew he had accepted both of us when he would do his “zoomies” run around the house. In fact, what started out to be a challenging situation turned out to be a wonderful experience.

house sitting chiang mai nubbins relaxing travel is sweet

House Sitting Chiang Mai Claire

In contrast, Claire the kitten bonded to us immediately. Never have I seen a cat that had so many doggy attributes as Claire did. She had a very loving nature, wanting to be with you 24×7. She would sit on Carolyn’s lap but sometimes would have to be moved. Carolyn would say go to Andrew and up she would get and come and sit on my lap. It was very fun to see her do this, not something we have seen in a cat before. However, she still was a kitten and mischievous was her middle name. She was not allowed outside except on a harness, but that didn’t deter her from trying. Stealth pussy cat she was and so darn quick. Needless to say, we were on high alert every time we would open an external door.

house sitting chiang mai claire travel is sweet

Overall, house sitting Chiang Mai had its challenges, it also had great rewards. Having gained the trust of Nubs was the highlight of our stay. Also, having survived the heat was a plus. Heat and I don’t mix well, Carolyn also found the heat challenging. Talia was a wonderful host and showed us all we needed to know for our time in Chiang Mai. So thanks to Talia, Nubbins and Claire for making house sitting Chiang Mai a memorable experience.
